Progressive Nation May 22, 2008 Terminal 5 - Review By BROFKA NATION On 2014-02-22

I ended up missing Three and we arrived just in time for Between The Buried and Me.  Terminal 5 is a new venue and had a huge General Admission floor level with a 2nd level railing surrounding it.  My friends and I figured we would watch Between the Buried and Me from upstairs since we didn't care for them too much.  They sounded pretty tight similar to Opeth but more new metalesque.  Once they were done we decided to move down and get a good view of opeth.  We managed to get a few rows back to the right of the stage. Opeth's set was good and heavy with the exception of 'In My Time Of Need'.  Their set included 'Wreath', 'The Baying of the Hounds', the new track 'Heir Apparent' and my favorite 'The Drapery Fall's.  Opeth's new band members sounded good and they mixed well with Mike.

We pushed our way forward and to the left and were in perfect position for Dream Theater. I was centered with John Petrucci. First their sound was amazing and to go along with it the lighting and stage setup was spectacular.  'Voices' and 'Erotomania' were great additions to the set, I always get chills when I see 'Voices' live.  I was disappointed that they didn't play  'In the Presence of Enemies pt. 2'.  Overall the set list was great and theres nothing better than a 30 minute Encore Medly!! 'Repentence' was played for the first time and Mikael from Opeth came on to do the 2nd chorus.  His microphone wouldn't go on and was hearing it from the crowd.  When a tech came out to fix the problem his part was over.  Mike Portnoy signaled to him to start the part again and not only was it metal it was brilliant.  The Show was unbelivable and I wouldn't expect anything less from D.T.

Dream Theater Set List -

  • 2001: An Ant Odyssey
  • In The Presence of Enemies Pt. 1
  • Beyond This Life
  • Misunderstood
  • Forsaken

Gigantour April 22, 2008 Hammerstein Ballroom Review By BROFKA NATION On 2014-02-22

My voyage to The Gigantour wasn't an easy ride.  I was finished with work at 5:30 and rushed to meet my friend at Pennsylvania Station only to find out via voicemail when I arrived that he missed his train.  I had an hour to kill and was worried that I'd be missing the Children of Bodom set. My friend arrived at 6:45 and we ran the two blocks to the Hammerstein only to find out Bodom was on stage and almost done with their set.  I was happy to see Blooddrunk live but unfortunately it was all I saw from Bodom.  In Flames took the stage next and their sound was flawless.  They sounded the tightest I've ever seen them.  They opened their 50 minute set with the two new tracks off of 'A Sense of Purpose'; this was a great idea because both tracks are very upbeat with powerful shredding guitars. I was disappointed that they didn't play Drenched in Fear, but I guess I'll have to wait til next time.

In Flames Set List:

  •  Mirror's Truth
  •  Disconnected
  •  Leeches
  •  Clayman
  •  The Quiet Place
  •  Trigger
  •  Artifacts of The Black Rain
  •  Cloud Connected
  •  Move Through Me
  •  Come Clarity
  •  Take This Life
  •  My Sweet Shadow

Megadeth wasn't worth it again! First off they played way too loud and they hardly touched old material.  They played too many new tracks of 'United Abominations' which was a waste of my time, and that is why I left early. Overall, I can't wait until In Flames graces my presence again in NYC or wherever I may be when their in town.
